One of the sweeter, romantic customs in the LEEP Calendar, Bretzelsonndeg in Luxembourg is a Lent tradition occurring on the 4th Sunday of Lent each year. If a young man is interested in a young woman, he gives her a cake in the shape of a knot—aka pretzel. If she is interested in him, she gives him sweets, a decorated egg, or a gift on Easter Sunday. Of course, he must wait three weeks to learn her answer!
But there is a hitch.
During leap years, ladies give the pretzel cakes and wait three weeks for the men to respond. Awe, love!
